In these ones, we see an encouragement of the pious to get married, and the inevitability of this is simply put out as the following: “the family institution appears as a proof for God’s existence, and family is an establishment that has existed ever since the existence of first human.”

It is not recent that family has received attention in the sermons. It has historically been an issue of importance in the Diyanet hutbes. In our reading of the previous hutbes we came across either similar discourses in the 1980s and 1990s or even more banal ones such as “research shows behavioural differences between incubator-hatched and chicken-hatched chicks. The former lacks some of the behavioural qualities of the latter” (in Hatiplere Hutbeler 3 1994). Some more common slogans and full hutbe quotations to do with families (in Cuma Hutbeleri, 1981 and Hatiplere Hutbeler 3 1994) are as follows in Box 6.
